Sunday Sessions

I went to see Feeder on Thursday night at Lusty Glaze and whilst Feeder were amazing (Buck Rogers rocks!) these guys were brilliant. Perfect to watch as the sun set over Lusty with a beer in hand.

Surfboards

I love surfboards. You could say I'm obsessed with them and I'm always on the lookout for new ones. One thing I always find is that 'girls' boards that are not covered in hibiscus flowers are hard to come by unless you have a custom design.

In my search for something fresh I stumbled across a brand called Hawaiki from Australia.

The designs on the boards are really unusual and look like something you would normally get in a custom board but not at a custom made price. I especially liked the guide they gave to explain the thinking behind the shape of the boards and how it was shaped with a girl in mind.

Pop Art

Check out this amazing pop art work on these boards by Kathy Evans! Cool right?

I love these as they are a bit girly but a great change from the traditional hibiscus flowers. I especially love the Wonder Woman design she did which can be seen here onthe Quiver Surfboards blog. If you are interested in having your own design commissioned then drop them a line to discuss your ideas and see what Kathy can do for you.

Bring Theresa Home Fundraiser

If you are Newquay based then I'm sure you will have heard about this fantastic fundraiser.

Theresa is married to Chris from Errant Surf and has recently been diagnosed with cancer. She wants to go home back to Canada for her treatment and a bit of family love to get her though but under Canadian rules she cannot get her treatment paid for during the first 2-3 months. The aim of this fundraiser is to raise money to get her back to Canada and pay for her treatment. It's an afternoon of fun at Fistral Beach Bar starting at 4pm tomorrow and as part of the fundraiser there is a an auction and a raffle. The people of Cornwalll have been hugely generous and donated all sorts of things from DIY to wetsuits. Bagabond has also donated a custom board sock as a raffle prize so if you have no plans for a beautiful sunny Sunday get down to Fistal, fill your pockets with pennies and come and donate it to Theresa.

To see details follow this link to the Facebook event page to also see what prizes are on offer.

Something New....

Vintage Board Meet

The vintage surfboard meet took place on Saturday and thankfully the weather came through- no wellies for us! It was a great day and it was a great opportunity for us to meet you guys face to face and get some amazing feedback.

Aside from chatting to you lovely folks I also spent a lot of time admiring the various collections of vintage boards there were. I took so many photos that I could not put them all on here so selected a few of the best for you to drool over. I definitely had board envy! So much so I bought one myself- couldn't resist.

Love love love this board!!

A Chris Jones rarity that its owner was proud to say it is one of the only two in the world like this- and she rides it all the time! Go her!

My new (old) board!

Sunday Sessions

So after a week of absence Sunday Sessions is back with local man Adam Parfitt who did an acoustic session at the Red Lion in Newquay today. Adam was a finalist in Newquay's Got Talent and played a great set today with a mix of some rarely played classics such as the Seahorses and some favourites like The Killers. Was a perfect mix for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Anyway here is Adam performing Neil Young's 'Old Man'- classic!

A Swimsuit for All Conditions...

I happened to stumble across this amazing Australian brand called Tallow which was created by two surfers, Ali Mandalis and Shannon Clynes. Their designs for swimwear are not only are distincctive but are made with surfers in mind. They also make some pretty cool wetsuits and clothes created with a surf girl's desire to still have a sense of individuality both in an out the water in mind.

With the desription of each swimsuit and bikini comes a little message about what surf conditions it is suitable to be worn it. Genius in my opinion.

Whilst it may seem obvious to some that a string bikini may not withold the force of 5ft waves crashing on you, there are those to whom it is not obvious and give the boys in the line up more more than what they bargained for. But I do like the fact that the Tallow girls have created what I call 'surf proof' bikinis which will hold in place regardless of the conditions meaning you can surf, get a tan and maintain your modesty all at once.

Now only to choose which one to buy....
