Surf Capsule

Billabong kindly presented me with this cool wetsuit from their surf capsule to try out. The capsule is based on vintage Californian style hence the retro style of the suit right down to the label. Cannot wait to test it!

French road trips

So we are nearly at the end of our first week in Hossegor and the surf has been crazy big! This means two things; I ache and have spent too much time shopping.... Even the dogs ended up shopping!

I have so much exciting stuff that has happened this week that I want to tell you but you will have to hang in there for now. But it is good.... I promise!

The storms here have been crazy and has bought huge swell and giant waves that has driven us South to Hendaye to get a few decent waves but even those have been pretty big. My muscles and my nerves have had a good workout this week...

Aside from the storms, shopping and waves we have had the 'pleasure' if experiencing the first traffic jams I have ever been stuck in (forgetting Paris of course) in France. The French are bad ass crazy... Who does a u- turn on the motorway to turn back to the exit you have already gone past to get out a queue??! I am in awe!

Hand painted wetsuit

Check out this super cool hand painted wetsuit we found hanging in Roxy Biarritz!!!

Sea Gems

Keeping with our love of turning unwanted items into beautiful things we have created some handmade jewellery from English sea glass and sea pottery.

It is funny to think these things were once bottles and plates rolling around in the ocean until they washed up on the shore but that's where they came from.

Each piece is handmade and unique; just the way we like it!

The sea pottery or sea glass pendants on suede and leather thong are £8 each and the sea pottery or sea glass pendants on silver plated chains are £10 and are complete with Tibetan silver t-bar clasps. The sea glass and sea pottery pendant on suede thong £10 but can be on a silver chain if requested

Post-surf Fish Tacos

This is my ultimate go to recipe for when you need a good filling meal after a long hard surf. This does the trick every time!

Recipe:

Pico de Gallo:
2 medium tomatoes
1/2 small red onion
1/2 tsp. jalapeno pepper

1 green onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tbsp. fresh lime juice
1/8 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
1/8 tsp. cumin

Chop the jalapeno, tomato and onions into small chunky peices. Combine all ingredients in a bowl then add the seasoning and spices and place in the fridge for later.

White Sauce (the best bit!):
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup plain yogurt
juice from 1/2 a lime

1 tsp. finely chopped jalapeno pepper
1 tsp. cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
1/2 tsp. kosher salt
1/2 tsp. cumin
1/8 tsp. garlic powder

Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Add in extra salt, lime, pepper and cumin as required. I tendt to add these ingediants together freely. Place in the fridge for later.  By the way, this sauce is great with pretty much anything it is that tasty!
Fish:

1/4lb white fish (cod or pollock works best)
1/4 cup or 32 grams white flour
1/4 cup or 32 grams cornflour
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp garlic powder
Black pepper
1 egg
1 tbsp water
Vegetable oil
1/2 cabbage head
Corn tortillas

Heat the oil in a deep pan until a cube if bread browns instantly once dropped in.

Mix the dry ingredients in one bowl and the egg and water in another. Cut the fish into pieces, dip into the egg then into the batter mix. Make sure the fish is evenly coated then fry. Once brown drain on some kitchen towel.

Heat the tortillas and chop up the cabbage then serve with the sauce and pico de gallo. Yum!

New Sock

New retro sock with vintage floral towelling and black corduroy.

The Quart

At Bagabond HQ we are constantly getting fabric remnants handed to us and whilst the majority of it is perfect for the board socks, there are sometimes some beautiful pieces that are too thin or small for the socks. It always seems such a waste so I wanted to put them to use.

This is how the Quart came about so named because it basically uses a fat quarter of fabric to make.

It is basically a bralette and this is the first one. I'm working on a different design with straps but I love these strapless ones as they are perfect to wear under baggy vests and loose knits.

A small selection of these will be loaded up soon for purchase and as with the socks once they're gone they're gone. The fabric for each will be limited so get them quick! Watch this space....

Bags of Style

The Hossegor trip is les than 2 weeks away and seeing as I am responsible for multiple tickets, passports, and various other documents we need (did I mention I tend to lose things??!) I thought it would be a great excuse to get a new travel bag to put everything in. This was when I came across this from Billabong.

What I love about this is that it looks like leather, but isn't, but also can be either a big bag or folded into a smaller bag. I also really love the print; kind of reminds me of the union jack flag in a not so obvious way. Either way this is top of my holiday wish list

Collaborations

So Roxy previously teamed up with Cynthia Rowley to produce an amazing collection of surfwear (did you see the wetsuits?!) and now it looks like Roxy's next partnership is with Diane von Furstenberg. The 35 piece collection will be available in 2013 and with prices starting at $38 (£24) I may buy the whole lot!
